Time Lapse Shows Akron Children's Hospital Construction Through Rain and Snow

AKRON, Ohio -- Not only does Akron Children's Hospital's new seven-story building reflect state-of-the-art practices in hospital design, it came in on time and under budget.
The Kay Jewelers Pavilion came in $20 million less than the initially projected $200 million price tag. This time-lapse video, courtesy of Akron Children's Hospital, shows crews working through the seasons, working even in the dead of two of the harshest Northeast Ohio winters on record.
The new building is seven stories tall, contains enough electrical wiring to reach to Buffalo, New York, and will be the new home of the neonatal intensive care unit, emergency room and trauma center, as well as outpatient surgery rooms. It will also house an all-new special delivery unit that will allow mothers undergoing C-section and other birth-related surgeries to stay with their newborns in the same room.
The old space is connected via a skybridge and underground tunnel, and will be transformed to offer pediatric radiology, therapy and rehabilitation services.
