A 40,000-square-foot "cardboard city" was constructed as a mock-up to test the space of a planned 11-story, 500,000-square-foot expansion to Boston Children's hospital. "We're doing this to make sure we make good decisions about how to design these spaces, make optimal use of the real estate and have very efficient workflow," said Melissa Burke, director of operations for the simulator program. The $1.5 billion expansion includes work at nearby properties as well.
